First get together

Hi all,

Just to let you all know that our first get together this term will NOT be Wed 13th Oct as would usually be. This is because a large number of our teens will be away on the adventure trip. (Please pray for them this Mon 11th – Wed 13th).

Instead our first get together will be TUESDAY 19TH October. This will be the bike session – so come prepared with your bikes! Venue to be announced. There will be a session on bike safety and maintenance and then a bike rally. Sooz and Marietta are organising these activities. Thank you very much ladies! Watch this space for more details!

Love,

Jackie

Teaching Financial Literacy to Teenagers and Young People Seminar for Homeschoolers

ATTENTION ONE AND ALL!!!!!!!………

This is a very special and important opportunity we are creating

DEFINATELY for ALL our TEENAGERS!!!!

(and children aged 10/12  or older who have a desire and interest in understanding money management).

This is an ESSENTIAL area that our teens need to understand well in order to survive and be successful in this world financially.

We have the privilege and pleasure of bringing Sylvia Bowden from Tauranga across to run a seminar for us specifically to prepare our young people to be financially wise as they grow into adulthood and begin to make financial decisions for themselves.

When:

Thursday 21st October in 2 sessions:  3-5:30 pm, take a break for dinner, and then 6:30-9pm.

Cost will be calculated according to the number of registrations we receive but will be in the realm of +/-  $20 per student attending. (Depends on numbers registered).

Details yet to be confirmed – venue(will definitely be in Hamilton) and final costs. An idea for dinner is to get a big group order for fish & chips and share together?

Sylvia is a financial wellness educator, budget advisor, life coach who has a diploma in Counselling.  She is a fun and engaging presenter.  She is also the author of a book called “Parents – How to Stop Your kids from going broke!  Her material is very practical and easy to understand. She has a passion for helping our young people get off on to a good footing with managing their money matters.

You may want to check out www.miomo.co.nz  (making it on my own), which is a dynamic programme for 16 – 25 year olds where she has been a regular presenter to teenagers.

Did you know that 43% of young people aged 18 – 24 in New Zealand have a negative net worth (ie: they are broke) and are going to be starting their life off in debt.

With statistics like these, our young people are either uneducated about money and the implications of debt or they are undisciplined, or both! If this mentality continues 43% of our young people are doomed to live a life of financial bondage.

We do not want that for our children!

We will need an RSVP by Sunday 10th October for attendance to Leatitia:    alama5@slingshot.co.nz with names and ages of attendees please.

Term 3

Hello all you wonderful ladies!!!!

Haven’t we just had an absolutely WONDERFUL weekend at HEART!!!!! I know all of you who were able to attend, will have just LOVED the rich fellowship, teaching and encouragement, and if you are like me,  have come home with a number of areas you want  to work on and “ tune Up” as well! Which we do  need – don’t we! It’s good for us to be reminded again of where we are going and what we need to do to make sure we stay on course along the way.

Those of you who were not able to come, I can’t recommend HEART highly enough to  you. It is such a RICH OASIS of inspiration and blessing along our homeschooling journey!!!! YOU NEED TO BE THERE!!!! Come next year! 24th-6th June 2011.

Any way…We have an exciting line up of classes for next term, including some that are new, never offered before!

Leatitia will send them on to you and you need to RSVP to her to register your child’s requests. We have some very exciting new classes –

1)      Money Matters – Entrepreneurial Home Business – especially for the homeschooled child who would like to learn more about money, and how to develop their own business from home!!! Yvonne Jonkers has offered this one. It is a subject close to her heart, and one I think would be super good especially for our older children to come to!

2)      Computers from Building to Using them . Matt Reid is coming to teach the children with Moses Cherrington assisting him. He has just purchased a whole trailer load of computer components, and will teach the children how to build a computer from scratch, then progressing through to using the different programs etc. He has enthusiastically prepared lesson plans for us detailing what will be covered. Sounds great! We will charge approx $3 per child for his class just to reimburse him for his time.

I think he would like the children to have a notebook and pencil please.

3)      Sewing BYO Project (and your sewing machine please!). Robyn, a designer herself, and new to our group, has kindly offered to take this class. SOOO your child can bring along ANY sewing project they like (AND your sewing machine !!!), and Robyn is happy to help them complete them. ( Just make sure you don’t choose something too complicated!) Im sure Robyn could use some willing helpers too please ladies!

4)      Woodwork and Routering – Kate has very kindly offered to take another set of classes offering this wonderful opportunity firstly to children who have not done it before. If there are still spaces then possibly a child may repeat these classes but they have been very popular so we thought it best to do it this way.

5)      Digital Photography and Computer Management of these photos. Colleen has done a fantastic job over term 2 and there has been a lot of very positive feedback from these classes. Thank you Colleen! This second session will best suit those wanting to learn how to manage their photos with the latest techno on the computer. If your child can bring a long a laptop to this class, it would be helpful, though this is not essential. (Just makes it easier if not everyone is huddled around trying to see one screen).

6)      First Aid Karen Wright and the girls are offering this course – something different. Will be fun and no doubt educational!

7)      Craft/?String Art Delwyn McPherson will possibly be taking this session! Always a hit. Yet to be confirmed.

GREAT NEWS!!! For all you Mums who would really love to learn more about managing your digital photos on your home computer, Colleen, has offered to have a class especially for us, at her home one evening! This will be in the 3rd term, and the date will be announced closer to the time…watch this space!!!

Thank you to all you lovely ladies for you contributions at our planning meeting. It sure made it easy having it right then and there on sight didn’t it!!!? Better than a night out in the middle of Winter!

Some have been asking if Karakariki is happening this Wednesday (30th  June)? The answer is no, it is not. We have had our 5 sessions this term.

The dates for term 3 at Karakariki are: Wed 21st July, Wed 4th Aug, Wed 18th Aug, Wed 1st Sept, and Wed 15th Sept

That’s probably about it from me, we (the Austin family) won’t be with you all for the first two sessions next term, as we are having a family holiday overseas, for a month. We get home Fri 6th August. We will be thinking of you all, and pray your families, and  homeschooling, (and holidays!), are very blessed!

We would appreciate your prayers for safe travel, and Gods abiding presence, as we are gone.

Much love to you all!!! We will miss you!

Jackie

Gary Palmer (Rebecca’s husband)’s Dad, Brian Palmer, works with the Coastguardover there and he has been very helpful re setting us up for this visit! We will go into the control room and even get to go out on the coast guard boat! The day may include some other intersting visits as well as the lovely beach, swim at hot pools, walk around Mount etc- as you wish. They can take around 30 at a time at the coast guard so will need to break into groups this size to manage everyone. More details to come on this one.
